The 'What is Drupal and Why Should We Care?" session covered the following topics, and then had open Q&A.
- Druplal is a open source, distributed web development tool.
- It's also a CMS.
- It has a large, robust, and friendly community.
- Collaboration is the key to success.
- Openness is fundamental.
- Open source is philosophically aligned with public media goals.
- Free software is not actually free. There are costs of "ownership."
- One of those costs is community participation.
- Anyone can contribute to Drupal.
- Drupal is an extensible and flexible platform for development.
- But it might not be right for your needs. (Use the right tool for the right job.)
- There are downloadable applications built on Drupal that can be used right now for public media.
We probably covered more than this. Others should feel free to add more.
